Going Home

Time to finally bust out of here with this sweet little man!

Daddy showed up this morning and right away, Alex was soo alert and trying to figure out where Daddy's voice was coming from.

He looks so grown up in big boy clothes

Some daddy snuggles as we wait to get discharged...

Love these 2!  Daddy is sooo very sweet with him!

Mama is ready to take you home!

Daddy loving on you some more

We have a similar shot of Makenna holding Daddy's hand so tight before we left from the hospital

Ewww, Daddy don't stick your finger in my ears!

Who is ready to go?

I didn't realize how small he was until I tried strapping him in his car seat - such a peanut!

Headed home, little Alex.  We can't wait to make a lifetime of sweet memories with you!

Dear baby boy....

Dear Baby boy,

In just 12 short hours, God willing, you will be in your mama's arms.  I have sooo very much enjoyed carrying you around from a tiny little snowflake to the wiggly, squirmy little man you've grown into.  I will very much miss feeling you roll around in there and feeling that little foot jab me in my right side all day long.  Yet I can't wait to see your little toes and touch those little feet, to see your chubby cheeks and stare into your eyes.  You truly are God's gift to us - our little bonus baby.  It still seems so surreal that God would bless us not just once, but twice through the gift of embryo adoption.  I look at your sister and I am in awe of God's plan for her - that He froze her and saved her just for us.  I can't even fathom that God would not only save one sweet frozen baby for us, but two!  We are so very blessed.

I think back to when our clinic first got the report of our 3 embryos from the clinic that froze them.  The records showed that when you were frozen, the power went out - just for a second, but it was just during the freeze process and we know how delicate and fragile you were.  The clinic told us to pick new embryos, to send you back.  But we knew that you were ours.  We had hope.  We prayed and prayed that God would do mighty things.  And boy, did He ever!!

Against the odds, you survived the thaw and you grabbed on so tight to mama's belly.  When the nurse told us that we lost you at 14 weeks, you held on even tighter.  When we saw you at your 18 week ultrasound, you gave us the thumbs up, letting us know everything would be ok.

I've been trying to come up with a song to play for you when you come into this world.  Your sister's was "What a Wonderful World" - it had so much meaning to us during our infertility journey and then in our pregnancy, too.  Today at church, they played a hymn that reminded me of a song that I used to play over and over again when Daddy and I were waiting.  As I stood there and sang along, tears flooded my cheeks and I knew that this was your song - you are the culmination of our journey.  It is done.  It is finished.  We have been blessed not only once but twice.  Our hearts are full, our family is complete.  Here are the words to the song.....

He's Always Been Faithful....by Sara Groves

Morning by morning I wake up to find the power and comfort of God's hand in mine.
Season by season I watch him amazed, in awe of the mystery of his perfect ways. .
Chorus: All I have need of his hand will provide. He's always been faithful to me. .
I can't remember a trial or a pain he did not recycle to bring me gain.
I can't remember one single regret in serving God only and trusting his hand. .
Chorus . This is my anthem, this is my song, the theme of the stories I've heard for so long.
God has been faithful, he will be again. His loving compassion, it knows no end. . Chorus

When I used to listen to that song in the midst of our struggles, it gave me hope.  It taught me to cling to God and His promises and I would not be disappointed.  I knew that God could use any trial, any pain to bring me gain - I just had to believe Him and trust in His plan.  Little boy, you have already revealed the power of God to us and you haven't even taken your first breath.  You truly are God's gift to us and I cannot wait to see how He will continue to use you to bring Him glory.

Love you more than you will ever know,

Your Mommy

Special night...

We wanted to do something special tonight with Makenna, one last family night with our "only child" before we become a family of four.  We've had a gift card to Build A Bear for while now so we figured we might as well check that out.
Getting her princess bear stuffed...
Getting her heart ready

Listening so intently to all the instructions
Giving her bear a bath
Typing up "Princess Celestia's" official birth certificate

No surprise she picked the Disney Princess bear....Daddy was proud of the wardrobe selection as well...
Goodnight sweet girl!  Love you!

Working on our baseball skills...

Our plans

Good morning everyone!  I debated whether or not I would give everyone an update on our plans for this baby's arrival.  Part of me REALLY loves the surprise of not knowing when the baby will come and surprising you all with a post once he makes his arrival.  But as I lay in bed sleepless at 4am I was reminded of the email I sent out to our prayer warriors back in January when we were gearing up in this process.  Here is the paragraph I had in mind....

"We covet your prayers in all of this.  As many of you know, we have been very open about this entire process from our first embryo transfer that resulted in a very early miscarriage to the successful pregnancy we had with Makenna.  One of the reasons for this is that we appreciate all your prayers and support.  As Psalm 127 (which coincidentally was a reading at our wedding) says “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.  Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.  In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat- for he grants sleep to those he loves.  Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him.”  We are inviting the Lord to watch over us in this process once again.  We know that we can’t do this on our own.  We come to Him asking that He bless us with this baby.  We know that this is completely out of our hands and we need to trust in Him once again.  We invite you to pray with us for God’s will.  I pray that he would knock our socks off once again with another miracle baby.  And in the process, I pray that He would get all the glory."

The truth is, we DO covet your prayers and we know that He has answered each of those prayers with this amazing little man that is getting ready to make his appearance.  Upon the doctor's recommendation, we have decided to move forward with a C-section, which is scheduled for this Monday, October 14th at 8am.  We would be so humbled if you would hold us up in prayer that day.  I'll admit, I'm a bit scared of a C-section, but I know that it is the right choice for us.  Please pray that all would go well - that there wouldn't be any complications, that the littlest snowflake would be healthy and perfect.

And I promise to post the first pictures of our newest blessing on Monday - the one that God has already knocked our socks off with:)  And because we need SOME surprises in this, I'll hold off on sharing his name until then..... well, and because I'm not sure we are 100% on it yet - ha!

Feeling very blessed...

I had dinner with my "mother myrtles" as we like to call ourselves (women from my infertility support group (aka infertile myrtles) who have gone on to be mamas) and was surprised with so many sweet gifts for the little man.  Thank you ladies!  Can't wait for you all to meet him!

Getting ready for brother....

Now that we are starting to get close, Makenna has been asking more and more about brother and about babies... some of my faves from this week...

1) While at Kohl's we spotted the double stroller carts on our way out - Makenna says - "wow, mama look at that fancy cart! When brother comes we can use that and I can sit here and he can sit here!"

2) While eating her grapes this morning "Mama, look at the little grape I found! When brother comes we'll have to save all the little grapes for him."

3) She knows she is not allowed to touch CD's/DVD's because she cracked one in half (a library one, no less) about a year ago. While getting one out yesterday - "Mama, when brother comes he can't touch CD's but I'm gonna be so big so I can touch them!"

4) "Mama, when brother comes will I be big enough to have fragile things?" I often tell her not to touch something because it is fragile - apparently since she is no longer the littlest she thinks she will be able to touch these things once brother is here.

5) Her usual and I'm sure we'll get LOTS more once he's here - "Mama, why do babies cry?" or "why can't babies talk?"

6) Lately she likes to ask me why boys stand when the pee - she will follow daddy to the bathroom (don't worry he shuts and locks the door so she can't see) and will stand outside it and say "Daddy, are you standing or sitting?' and "Daddy, why do you stand when you go potty?" I'm sure once she discovers brother's "boy parts" there will be a WHOLE lot more of these kinds of questions! LOL....

Kenna girl - you are going to make such a good big sister and I can't wait to teach you alllll about babies and how to help mama and daddy take good care of them!

Decisions, decisions...

Just s little glimpse into a normal morning for us and the big decisions we face....... hmmm, what princess underpants do we wear?  Today she even requested we call daddy at work to get his opinion.  Lol.  Love this age!
